when the highest speed realised was 16 knots, with forced draught, (she is a 19 knot steamer).

In the evening of the 2nd. we steamed

towards the Chinese Coast which we sighted on the 4th. somewhere

to the Southward of Swatow.

At 1.30 p.m. on that day we stopped and

communicated with two British Steamers, to one of which, the "Waishing", we were transferred and, by her, conveyed to Swatow, where we arrived on the morning of the 5th. Here 1 reported the circumstances of our capture to the British Consul. On the 6th. we were sent to Hongkong in the S.S. "Haecheng".

1 have nothing to complain of concerning our

treatment on board, which was uniformly courteous.

The Consul at Swatow received a telegram

from the Master of the "Oldhamia", sent from Nagasaki, asking

if he knew the whereabouts of his crew.
